A couple weeks ago I attended the Nichole Van Professional Workshop. This would be the 2nd workshop I have attended since I started this business and probably the best investment I have made in myself and my company this far. I will be honest, however. When I signed up for this workshop I was a little hesitant. Whenever you spend a large amount of money you always hope for the best, but for some reason I really had my doubts. My first workshop, while it was great to network with other photog’s, might have put a bad taste in my mouth for lots of reasons (I won’t name names, and won’t go into detail, that would just take way too long:), I’m just sayin’. For some reason I was assuming that this workshop would be the same. Um, yeah, I was so wrong.
Where to start…..First off, Nichole greeted me with a great big hug and expressed how happy she was that I was there, and I noticed she did this with all the other attendees. How sweet is that?? She has a background in art history and teaching which really shined when she was speaking to us. I have never taken an art class in my life (hmm, or maybe I did and it was in high school and I totally didn’t pay attention ha ha, sorry mom!!) and found myself intrigued by all this new information. It isn’t about just taking pretty pictures, it is understanding exactly why a photo is beautiful given all these different artistic points of view. I reeeeally dug that portion of the workshop. She was so open with all of her information and more than willing to answer any questions that we had. And all the details that go into hosting a workshop like this were so perfectly planned! Seriously, she did such an amazing job with everything from food, to models, to locations, to our materials. I seriously cannot say enough great things about this woman. Beyond her knowledge and her expertise when it comes to photography, she is hands down one of the funniest, genuine, most kind hearted people I have ever met. I left the workshop feeling so inspired. And while I did have my doubts, I now know that this was such a great investment. Check her out if you get a chance, I believe she has workshop schedules on her site. You won’t be sorry!
This is a photo that I took using off camera flash. I loooooved this part of the workshop. And dude. It was fuh-reeeezing outside and these models didn’t seem bothered at all!! I love how you can use various lighting techniques to take a photo to a whole different level. And this photo didn’t require much editing at all. I did a bit of burning and sharpening, but that’s it.
