Here are some images from a mentoring session I held for UrbanAlli Photography and Jonesy Ray Photography………we pretty much had the most gorgeous models ever. Mentoring Session | UrbanAlli Photography

The other day I had the absolute pleasure of mentoring Allison Cahoon from UrbanAlli Photography, and Diana Toone from Jonsey Rae Photography. We started the day off with their own personal photo shoots. This is an optional session add on to your mentoring session, and a fabulous way to get amazing, updated photos for your website or blog. These girls brought some super fabulous clothing, and their hair and make-up was gorgeous! Once done with their sessions our drop dead gorgeous (and that is putting it lightly, just wait till you see their photos…OMG!!) models arrived and we began the mentoring portion of our session. They were the sweetest sisters ever and I am so happy with the photos we shot from their session. So….coming up…..the AMAZING photos of our models from Allison and Diana’s mentoring session, and Diana’s super gorgeous personal shoot. Keep checking back…..

For now, feel free to drool over the lovely Allison. She made my job super easy, and you just know I love me some redheads!! This is someone who, before this mentoring session, I had never met in person. Based on that day alone I know we will be friends fo-eva!!! Allison, you are such a wonderful, amazing, and talented photographer, and someone that I am fortunate enough to now call my friend. Lova ya girl! You are gorgeous!

Another mentoring session | Dana Willis Photography

I had the pleasure of mentoring Dana, from Dana Willis Photography. She is so much fun, so talented, and we had a wonderful day together! Our gorgeous model, who is also my senior rep from Northridge High, was amazing. She brought the cutest outfits, I loved her hair, and she just looked downright beautiful for our shoot. She was a natural in front of the camera, to say the least, and I am so in love with the images that we captured that day. Thank you so much Kristin and Dana, you guys are the best!

Over the last few months I have been getting requests from other photographers, professionals and those just starting out, wondering if I do one on one mentoring sessions. After giving this idea much thought, I have decided to give it a go! The thought of sharing my knowledge with others is so exciting and I would love to spend the day with YOU!!! This is such a great investment for your business and will definitely give you the boost you need to take it all to the next level. I cannot tell you how many sleepless nights I spent early on trying to figure everything out on my own. I googled, I bought books, I made phone calls, and ultimately I found myself feeling soooo frustrated.

First of all there are so many amaaaazing photographers out there who have their own shooting style, and their own way of post-processing. I am not an expert, I don’t claim to be, but what I do has been working for me. In my opinion, knowing how to create your own look in Photoshop is one thing, but you HAVE to start with a clean image SOOC (straight out of camera.) Proper exposure is key when shooting and I really feel like it can make or break your photo. Same with white balance. The less work you have to do in ACR to correct a bad image, the better the results in Photoshop. I feel like the best way to acheive those two is by shooting completely in manual, hands down. Now we all know Photoshop can do many amazing things, but it cannot correct a bad image from the get go, plain and simple. I can tell as soon as I look at a photo if someone knows how to operate their camera, or if they used 3 or 4 actions in Photoshop to correct their in camera mistakes.

Soooo. Here is the scoop. For one whole day we will cover all the above. How to find the best light, how to properly expose your photos, how to achieve good white balance, composition etc. Then we will have some fun learning the tools in Photoshop and how to use them to create so many different looks. I will show you exactly how I do what I do from the beginning, nothing held back. I would like to add that I will not really cover business or marketing. I feel like that is something we need to figure out according to the market we currently live in. My market is totally different than someone who lives in CA and vice versa. Make sense??

Do you have to be a professional? The answer is no!!! Everyone has to start somewhere and if you are a beginner and want to learn how to shoot manually, or Photoshop is giving you grief than I am here to help. If I can spare you the frustrations that I am sure we all feel at some point then please, let me help.
