Macro awesomeness

Ok. I am so not a nature photographer, nor do I pretend to be. Like 8 or 9 years ago when I bought my first camera I would mess around and take shots of flowers and leaves and if I was lucky a cool bug, but I was just shooting with a stock lens and shooting on auto settings so my results were not really all that awesome. I have been really, really wanting to try out a macro lens for awhile now but just never had the time to actually make the call to rent one and then drive all the way down to SLC and, well, you get the idea. However, lately I have been wanting to try even more lighting techniques, photograph more than just people, and well, keep those creative juices flowing in general. So I made the trip, rented the lens, and holy craaaaaap. I am so glad I did. I was waiting for a bride to show up to her bridal shoot and I realized I was surrounded by all sorts of cool flowers, flowers that I am not sure I would have noticed otherwise. That is one thing I have really enjoyed about photography. It has forced me to see the beauty in all my surroundings. Wether it is an old barn, an empty field, or a dead flower for heaven’s sakes, I finally notice the unique characteristics of each. So here are some images that I took using the 105mm f/2.8 for Nikon. Again, not anything spectacular, but hey, for my first time ever really trying to shoot some cool nature photographs, not too shabby. I didn’t want to overly edit these photos to keep them as natural as possible so in Bride I just upped my blacks/contrast a tad, my exposures were spot on, and in Photoshop I did a soft light layer at 10%, sharpened and voila’! Pretty fun!

It’s about that time!

You know that time that we love and hate all at the same time. We wish we could continue to spend our summers sleeping in, spending long days at the swimming pool, and late nights playing outside. But ya know, by mid-summer my kids are kinda-sorta sick of the pool, we have pretty much gone everywhere and done everything, and really exhausted all our options for entertainment. Enter children who are bored, mis-behave constantly, and even though they don’t know it, are ready to go back to school. And I think I am ready to haha!

And I am sure we can all relate to those cheesy photos that are done the first few weeks of school. You know the ones that every year we keep getting, and every year we end up pissed off because our child’s eyes are closed, or they have a huge hair sticking out of a pony tail that they just had to have that morning for their picture, and did we seriously just waste money on that?!? If you can’t tell that has happened to me…a few times. But you know what I mean.

Here’s what I’m talking about: Sessions are $175. This is a session for 1 child, each additional add $20, pretty please. Sessions are 30 minutes in length, with 15 minutes between each session. You can choose an Urban, country, or a studio session. There will be 4 openings available for each.

Here’s what you get: {2} 8×10′s, {3} 5×7′s, {2} sets of 8 wallets (you get to choose your images for print), and 8 images on CD with copyright release. Pretty smokin’ deal!! Package is valued at over $350!!

Oh my goodness this little lady just melts my heart in a major way! She is almost 7 now….where does the time go? Now that we are in our new home I really want to work on getting some of my photos up on the walls so I have been taking my girls down to the studio to take their photos. Now all I have to do is get Frankie down there, easier said than done. She is 2 and I know that she purposely does whatever she can to NOT look at me once she notices my camera. I won’t hold my breath for that one. So here is a peek at Sophie’s session. She had a blast with it and seriously worked it for the camera!!

Well hello. Seems like it has been forever since I have posted to my blog. I’m still here, promise!! I have so many great images to share but so many different things on my plate at the moment. We have finally moved in to our new home and I cannot tell you how happy we are about it. The neighborhood is amazing with little kids everywhere (something that we did NOT have in our old hood), parks within a minute away – one in our backyard actually, quiet streets and friendly neighbors, etc. I have been completely consumed by the whole home buying process for the last few months. From all the forms that you have to file, to the phone calls that needed to be made, to packing, my sweet kids, the end of school and the start of our summer, work…….ya, I was feeling a bit overwhelmed, but it has all been worth it, so worth it. We are in our home, the kids are soooo happy, I am catching up on my work, and we have a full summer ahead of us. Life is so good right now. I have had the most amazing sessions lately, and have been able to share my knowledge with others during my mentoring sessions. I couldn’t ask for anything more. Now all I need to do it get these images posted! And speaking of getting things posted…..I couldn’t help but add this one of a good friend’s absolutely drop. dead. gorgeous. little girl. And their amazing family/engagement shoot should be up on the blog soon. Thanks for looking!! Hugs……

Yet another fabulous senior session. Have I mentioned that these sessions are my favorite?? This session was so much fun. Kylee had so much personality and I love that you can see her having fun in her photos. And seriously. Her red hair. SO gorgeous!!! I am so happy for all the seniors that I had the pleasure of photographing this year. Congrats on your upcoming graduation and best of luck to you in the future.

On another note…..I have received an overwhelming response to my mentoring post that I did yesterday. I am flattered and wanted to say thank you to all your kind words, it really means a lot to me.
